Welcome to Health Services

Hello, families.

We look forward to working with your children to keep them healthy throughout the school year!

Please help by providing up to date and accurate health information to your school nurse.  This includes:

  • Current physical exams and dental exams for Grades Kindergarten, 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 and all new entrants
  • Current immunization records
  • Current doctor’s orders for medical excuses, conditions and medications.

Your school nurses also need to be made aware of the following:

  • Broken bones
  • Injuries that require crutches, wheelchairs, slings, casts, or any other assistance device.
  • Lacerations that required stitches or staples
  • Concussions
  • Contagious diseases-Covid-19, RSV, flu, strep throat, fifth's disease and other illnesses.
  • Serious medical conditions-diabetes, heart disease, asthma, anaphylaxis, seizures and other concerns.

As a reminder, students who are ill must remain home for a full 24 hours and be free from fever, vomiting or diarrhea before returning to school, or have completed a one full dose of an antibiotic.

Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.

Best Regards,

COVID-19, INFLUENZA & RSV GUIDANCE

Katonah- Lewisboro School District specific guidance recommendations for COVID-19

On March 7, 2024, the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) adopted updated guidance from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) related to COVID-19, Influenza, and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). The District will follow the NYSDOH guidance as summarized below:

  • Individuals should stay home and away from others, including people they live with who are not sick, if they have respiratory virus symptoms that are not better explained by another cause. These symptoms can include fever, chills, fatigue, cough, runny nose, and headache.
  • Individuals can go back to normal activities when, for at least 24 hours, both of the following are true:
    • Symptoms are getting better overall, and
    • They no longer have a fever without the use of fever-reducing medication.
  • When going back to normal activities, individuals are encouraged take added precautions over the next 5 days, including taking additional steps for cleaner air, hygiene, masks, physical distancing, and testing when they will be around other people, especially older adults, young children, and those with weakened immune systems. Keep in mind that people may still be able to spread the virus that made them sick, even if they are feeling better, so it is important to take extra precautions after resuming normal activities.
  • If individuals develop a fever or start to feel worse, they should stay home and away from others again. They should use the same criteria for returning to normal activities as when they first had symptoms and take added precautions over the next 5 days.

When sick or not feeling well:

Parents are asked to keep children home if students are sick or not feeling well and to notify the attendance office and school nurse of the absence.

Medical Clearance Post-Covid guidelines:  If a student has had COVID-19 within 30 days of the start of a sport or during a sports season, they will need a medical clearance. The medical note needs to state " Student is cleared, Post Covid-19, to return to Sports without restrictions."
