Welcome Back 2018

August 31, 2018

Dear KLSD Families,

By now you have received notes from your children’s individual schools with information about schedules, opening day, and all the other necessary details.

This short note from me is simply to let you know how much we are looking forward to restarting school next week. Our faculty and staff will join us for Superintendent’s Conference Day on Tuesday. We are excited to welcome our students on Wednesday.

This summer, we have welcomed Mary Ford, our new Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. She has been working closely with Christopher Nelson (our Director of Technology who was new in February) and our three staff developers. Together, they form a team that will support professional learning throughout the District. Ongoing learning is an incredibly important part of a highly effective organization. Of course, in a school district, modeling for our students that the adults around them continue to learn and grow is all the more important.

In addition, this summer we have made upgrades in technology, in safety and security, and in our physical facilities. Our students and staff will benefit from all when they return.

Next week, we look forward to building new relationships and strengthening existing ones. The best learning takes place when relationships are strong – when we can challenge one another, take risks, fail and bounce back, receive and give feedback – all the while knowing that we are here to support one another in a community committed to the personal growth of all.

My sincerest wishes to all for an engaging, enjoyable, and memorable 2018-2019 school year.

Yours,

Andrew Selesnick, Superintendent of Schools
