Re-Opening Update July 18 2020

July 18, 2020

Dear KLSD Community,

As you know, we continue planning for the re-opening of school this fall.

On Monday (7/13), we received necessary guidance from the NYS Department of Health. On Thursday (7/16), we received guidance from the NYS Education Department. Both guidance documents are available here on our school website. If you choose to review them, you’ll see that we’ve been given a great deal to consider.

The guidance directs us to publish our plans on our school website by July 31, 2020. We must include plans for in-person learning, a hybrid model (learning both in school and at home), and a fully remote model.

If you have not done so already, please complete our survey available here, no later than Sunday night. I understand that this survey does not provide you with details about the plans that are still being developed. We will provide those details as soon as possible. In the meantime, your initial thinking will help us proceed.

In addition, this week, NYS announced plans related to inter-scholastic athletics. For now, the start of school sports has been delayed until Monday, September 21. Fall Regional and State Championship events have been cancelled. The State has also developed tentative plans for a condensed three season sports schedule starting in January (in case it proves impossible to have sports this fall). As we learn more from the State, we will share the information with you. If you wish to read the full sports announcement from the State, it is available here:  NYS Sports Announcement 7 16 20.pdf .

Please continue to be well.

Sincerely,

Andrew Selesnick, Superintendent of Schools
