Proposed Tutoring Policy

August 16, 2018

Dear KLSD Community,

Because it is summer and you might not be reading our Board of Education meeting agendas closely, I want to draw your attention to a proposed new policy that our Board is considering.

The proposed policy sets forth parameters to avoid impropriety or the appearance of impropriety when KLSD staff members are approached by families who seek tutoring, coaching, or other individual assistance for a student on a private, compensated basis.  Like any newly proposed or revised policy, this proposed policy will be considered at three public Board of Education meetings.

The Board conducted the first of three readings at its meeting on July 26, 2018.  The Board will revisit the policy on August 23rd (for a second reading) and then again (for a final reading and possible adoption) on September 6, 2018.  These meetings are scheduled to begin at 7:30 pm in the JJHS library.

If you wish to review the policy, you will find it here.  If you wish to offer feedback or ask a question about the proposed policy, you can email our Board of Education at BOE@klschools.org or you may wish to attend the upcoming August 23 or September 6 meetings.

Thank you, and I look forward to writing to you again soon to welcome you back for the 2018-2019 school year.

Sincerely,

Andrew Selesnick

Superintendent of Schools
