Attendance Form Reminder August 14 2020

August 14, 2020

Dear KLSD Community,

First of all, thank you for your interest in this week’s community meetings. We had more than 1,100 participants in total (recognizing that some of you may have attended more than one meeting). Videos of all three meetings are now posted on our website. I hope they’ll be helpful.

We know we have not addressed every question you’ve sent. We will continue to update the FAQ section on our website.

Today, I’m reminding families about the fall attendance form that is still open online and will close this Sunday night. Thank you to all who have already responded (please do not respond again). For those who have yet to respond, here is the link.

To clarify, we are NOT suggesting that if you choose to keep your child home full-time, you must homeschool your child (which requires unenrolling from KLSD). You may choose to keep your child home and still access remote learning opportunities through KLSD. However, until we know the number of students who will not be attending school in our hybrid model, we can’t be sure how many staff we can dedicate to fully remote learning. Nonetheless, be assured that we will do our best to provide high quality learning opportunities for all our students.

We are asking you to respond to the survey with September and October in mind. I’m very sympathetic to the fact that it is a difficult decision, but without an accurate sense of your intentions, we will be less able to make plans that best suit all.

This week’s extremely low counts of COVID cases in our communities are cause for pride. They are also a reminder of the need for continued vigilance and adherence to all health and safety protocols – for the sake of public health in our communities and to give us every chance of opening and keeping open our schools.

We will continue to keep you updated regarding plans for September.

Be well,

Andrew Selesnick, Superintendent of Schools
