John Jay High School’s 2017 Spring Concert Series

  John Jay High School’s Performing Arts Department announces its 2017 Spring Concert Series. Over 230 musicians will perform a variety of music over four nights in May. All performances begin at 7:00 p.m. in the John Jay High School Auditorium and are free to the public. 

 

Wednesday, May 10: Jazz Night with performances by two jazz bands under the direction of Jeffrey Richardson, John Jay’s Vocal Jazz led by the chorale and orchestra teacher Steven Morse, and the schools three student-run a cappella groups: The Noteables, The Rolling Tones and the Treble Makers.

 

Monday, May 22: Choral Concert featuring the John Jay Chorale accompanied by the school’s Symphony Orchestra performing selections from the “Requiem” by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and a chorus from Mendelssohn’s Oratorio “Elijah,” conducted by Steven Morse. Also on the evening’s program is a performance by the school’s Concert Choir under the direction of Amy Geiger.

Wednesday, May 24:  Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble present a varied repertoire of band literature under the baton of Jeffrey Richardson, Director of Instrumental Studies.

 
 
Wednesday, May 31: Orchestra Night featuring the John Jay Symphony and the String Orchestras performing works by Beethoven, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, and “Adagio” by Samuel Barber. Steven Morse conducts both of these groups.
